Vice-Rkgal. His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, opened the Franklin Show at Pukekohe on Saturday afternoon. In th© evening he returned t-o Auckland, where he unveiled the memorial to fallen soldiers at St. Matthew’s Church yesterday afternoon. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington to-day, and will probably leave to-morrow for Christchurch, returning on March 9, to enable His Excellency to open Parliament on March 11. In the meantime Their Excellencies’ family will spend a holiday at Napier. Last night the Bishop of Wellington inducted the Venerable Archdeacon Innes-Jones as vicar or the parochial district of Roseneath, in succession to the Rev S. 11. Petrie. The service was fully choral, and the choir was augmented by the former associates of the late M rs. M. J. Greenwood, who for twenty rears led the choir in that church The Bishop also dedicated an oak lectern artistically carved in the form of an ea-le bv the director of the Technical School "of Christchurch, in memory of the late Mrs. Greenwood. It was subscribed for by the parishioners. J here was a very large attendance. There has been a considerable improvement in the condition of Mr. Wil ham Pryor, secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, who was taken seriously ill on Thursday evening.
The death is announced of Mr.. Thomns Parsons, Mayor of Eketahuna. The late Mr. Parsons, who was 79 years <)f age, was chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Association tor several years.
On Thursday last Private Vincent, on behalf of the patients cf the Treutham Military Hospital, presented Padre Burton, who is shortly leaving for England, with a suit-case and travelling i ug. Mi. Vincent referred to the .-ordiality that had always existed between Padre Burton and the soldiers, and the splendid work the. padre had done r.t 'I rentham. Padre Burton suitably responded. The Rev. Angus M'Bain, of Hastings, who was formerly vicar of the Petone Wesleyan Church, is at present visiting his old parish.
