VENDOR HEAVILY FINED. In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., Henry I aris, the owner of a fish shop in Adelaide Road, for whom Mr. P. J O’Be»an appeared, was charged with selling tainted fish, also with selling fish unfit for human consumption. The. facts, as disclosed in the evidence, were that two men visited the fishmonger's and purchased fish and chips. Accompanied by twr others, they repaired to tho house of one of the party, where it was intended to consume the fish and chips. One witness stated that he tasted a mouthful of the fish, and "that was enough for him.” He declared the fish was putrid, and that he had been ill for an hour afterwards. The second lot was apparently as bad as the first, for the purchaser cf that also suffered through tasting the fish. This witness said that one of the party desired to take a p.iece cf fish home for his cat, but the fish was too "hot" even for the cat. The party took a piece of the tainted fish to Paris and complained, end the latter offered to refund the money or replace the fish.

The complainants were all regular customers of his, and when they complained he offered to give them a frosh lot of fish or refund the money. It was possible that, the fish purchased by the complainants was "on the turn.”
