A MONTH’S GAOL
STEALING FROM A CHURCH. In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., Joseph G. Kersley was charged with stealing a table, five I chairs, and two vases, valued at £6 155., from St. Joseph’s Church, Buckle Street. Kersley pleaded guilty. Su'b-Tnspector Willis said 'hat. for some days past chairs and tables had been stolen from the church, and the matter was reported to the police. A constable was then secreted in the church, which was usually left open all day. The accused was seen to enter the ihurch, walk up to the sanctuary, toss th» flowers out of two vases, and t ut. the vases under his coat. He was surprised by the constable and- immediately arrested It was discovered that Kersley had sold some goods to a second-hand denier. SnbTnspcctor Willis also stated that Kersley was convicted'in November Inst of stealing from St. Anne.’s Church, Newtown. Kersley was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment.
