AUSTRALIANS AT HAMILTON MATCH AGAINST SOUTH AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, February 22. The Australian cricketers were accorded a civic reception here to-day, and commenced a match against South Auckland at noon. The weather was fine but dull, and there was a large attendance. The local men won the toss, and batted first, sending in Txiveridge ajid Sneddon to face the bowling of Asher and Hornibrook. The partnership lasted until 74 was reached, when Loveridge (35.1 was stumped. The other batsmen, with the exception of H. Johnston (25), did not make much showing, and the innings closed for 173. C 8 WELLINGTON MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE RENTAL OF THE BASIN RESERVE The Management Committee of the Wellington Cricket Association met last night. Mr. C. G. Wilson presided, anil there were also present Messi’s. B. L. Salmon, M. J. Crombie, W. G. Hughes, R. Murphy, C. R. Edmonds, and R. S. Johnston (secretary). On the motion of the chairmau, seconded by Mr. Hughes, it was decided, that, the association should give caps to the Wellington boys playing in the next public schools representative match against Wairarapa. It was decided to make a donation ot .£3 3s. to the funds of ihe Wellington Bovs’ Cricket League. A letter was received from the town Clerk, stating that the Reserves Committee could hot see its way clear to accept tho association’s offer made with reference to the rental of the Basin Reserve. The Town Clerk intimated that the offer made by the council on December 22 still stood. "In view of the present unsatisfactory condition. consequent upon an agreement not being completed,” the letter continued, "I am directed to ask that the matter be now completed forthwith, as the position cannot be allowed to remain unsettled indefinitely. The council are desirous that there should bo no amounts outstanding by your association at the end of the year, viz., March 31, and 1 haie to ask 'that this will also receive your immediate attention.’ Members of the, committee took exception to the tone of tho letter, more especially to the reference to finance. "The attendance at the Australian match was a record,” remarked the chairman, "and they have, never had so many people on the Basin. “What money do we owe the council ? asked Mr. Hughes. ( “Nothing,” replied the secretary. At anv rate, we have not received an account from thorn for the Australian Salmon: Well' we can’t be said to be owing an account until we receive it. The chairman: I think we might ask for a copy of the agreement for perusal. (I.aughter.), Wo have never seen it yet. We might also draw their attention to the Inst paragraph in their .letter, and state that the Wellingon Cricket Association have never been behind vith their payments for the last six years. The whole trouble has been that we have been too good payers. „ It was decided to reply to the town Clerk in the terms of the chairman s suggestions. Accounts amounting to J 1125 14s. were passed for payment. It was reported that the outside gate takings at the Australian match amounted to -£609 65., of which the City Council took .£lO2 3s. as its share. The total takings, including the 'proceeds from the sale of programmes, amounted to .£9Ol 25., but this was not inclusive of a sum of j£2s received from Sir Francis Bell. The net profit for ths association was about .£3OO.
