SECOND ADVENT CONFERENCE
As the Second Advent Conference proceeds the ever-increasing numbers who attend the meetings indicate widening interest in the subjects dealt with. The speaker yesterday evening was the Iter. Joseph Kemp, of Auckland.. He apolo-' gised for changing his subject, and spoke on the practical advice given by Paul to- Titus. He said he was tired of conferences which ended merely in theoretical teaching, and understood that the object of this conference was that something intensely practical should arise 'out of it. Such a subject as Our LorcKs second coming had iio be redeemed from unholy curiosity, an unhealthy craving for dates, time notes, etc., which too frequently characterised such 'meetings, especially in America; bur. it had also to be redeemed from unsanctificd indifference. Fifty per cent, of present-day professing Christians were quite indifferent to it, and the fault lay in a large measure with the ministers. Some of the preachers to-day needed a course of spiritual chiropractics to straighten out their backbones and stiffen them up a bit. Jesus meant us fp take word that He woulcT come again literally, but the practical importance of JTis coming again was lost unless it produced Christians who lived soberly, righteously and godly in this present world. All professing Christians expected Christ’s coming. but to comparatively few was it the "blessed hope” spoken bf by St. Paul.
