NEW ZEALAND GRAVES
CARE AT BROCKENHURST A ROLL OF HONOUR GUILD The Primo Minister some time ago wrote, thanking many people who had given help and hospitality to New Zealand troops in Britain during the war and the demobilisation period. The following letter received by the last mail is one of the replies that have reached him: —
"Sunhill Boldre, ' near Lymington, Hants, England, December 18, 1920.
"Dear Sir, —Having been one of the favoured recipients of a packet (forwarded from the High Commissioner’s Offices, London, on the 14th inst) containing a copy of "New Zealand’s Thanks’ and your own most kind letter of appreciation of the little services we were able to render to the N-Z.E.F. stationed in our midst during the war, permit me to offer my ’most sincere thanks to your Government, people, and yourself for all courteous remarks which will ever be highly valued.
"It is now that the greatest privilege is ours. Nearly one hundred of New Zealand’s sons who paid the supreme sacrifice lie at rest in our historic churchyard of Brockenhurst, Hants. In order to keep in perpetual remembrance the noble deeds of these soldiers of the N.Z.E.F., we have organised a 'Roll of Honour Guild’ which is composed of able and voluntary workers. The enclosures will give an idea of our work.
"The hill overlooking the little village where the New Zealand General Hospital (No. 1) was organised is crowned with white crosses—a lasting testimony of the loyalty, honour, and glory of the people of New Zealand. These graves will ever be tended and cared for: both for tho sake of those who gave up their live® for the peace of the world and all mankind, as well as for those who mourn for their beloved ones who must for ever remain with us. May the work my guild has undertaken help to bind our land and yours in a deeper brotherhood than has ever before existed. "I have the honour to remain, dear sir, yours . faithfully.—(Sgd.) (Mrs.) Charlotte M. Salwey, Guardian of the N.Z.S.’sG.’s, Brockenhurst Churchyard, Hants, England."
