NOTES AND COMMENTS By Glencoe. Acceptances for the Dannevirke meeting close on Friday next, at 8 o’clock, with Secretary W. Dobson. On Friday next entries close for the C.J.C. Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps. The Racing Commission, which reached Dunedin from Invercargill at the weekend, is now engaged on a- tour of Otago ■ Central. After this Christchurch will be used as a" Jumping-off post for the West Coast, racecourses, and from there Nelson and Blenheim will be taken. The commission is apparently making a point of visiting aH the racecourses, but surely this seems hardly necessary. To the ordinary person it looks like a waste of time viewing cevrses like Trentham, Awapuni. Hastings, Wanganui, Hawera, etc., for there will always be_ race meetings there. By no possible means could the commission finish its trin before the first week in April, and as-it will take some time to frame its renort. there is no chance of the matter reaching Parliament this session. Some of the Higgins team at Trenthnm have been nominated at the Nelson and Marlborough meetings, and in all probability Parorangi and Sandy M'Donald will race at the meetings named. A D. Webster is taking Sir Fanciful and Bestir to the Nelson, and Blenheim meetings, and the pair will then do the West Coast fixtures at Easter. The ayed gelding Marc Anthony, who has been racing at Riccarton for a number of years, has been acquired by the Southland owner, Mr. W. Stone, and will race in his interests in future. The Wairaraipa Racing Club has issued its programme for the Easter meeting. The big handicap on the opening day is worth £6OO, arfd on the second day £5OO. There is no race on the programme of less value than £260. SUSPENSION OF RACING OAKLEIGH FUTURITY STAKES ABANDONED. Melbourne, February 21. Owing to the Industrial uncertainty the Oaleieli and Futurity Stakes have been abandoned. Altogether this means a loss pt £llOOO. The suspension of racing m victoria so far involves the loss of £20,000.— Press Assn. V.R.C. ACCEPTANCES POSTPONED. (Rec. February 21. 8.55 0.m.) Melbourne, February 21.
