CRICKET

OTAGO DEFEATS CANTERBURY.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, February 21

The opening of the third day’s play to-day in the Otago-Canterbury cricket match, again found the situation interesting, for though. Otago held a strong position, Canterbury still had a fighting chance. They had 300 to make, and had lost three wickets for 57 on Saturday. Patrick and Reese took up the task and carried the score to 115 before Reese was caught by Chadwick off Carlton. Evans did not stay, but Patrick and Page saw .the total to 167. At that stage Patrick, who had made a very sound half-century, skied one back to Carlton, and Canterbury’s last chance was practically gone. The remainder of the team carried, the score to 205 before the last wicket fell at a quarter to five, Otago thus winning a most interesting " game by 94 runs. Scores: — OTAGO.
