EDUCATION BOARD
NEW SITE FOB MOUNT COOK SCHOOL.
Tho monthly meeting of Education Board was held yesterday. Mr. G. T. London presided in the absence of the chairman (Mr. T. Forsyth). The Department wrote intimating that the proposal of the board for the consolidation of the Mount Cook School—at present there are three separate buildings—as modified, had been agreed to. The purchase of certain land was also sanctioned by the Department, subject to a certain price limit. —The secretary (Mr. G. L. Stewart.) reported that tho board had in mind the acquisition of 1| acres of land in the immediate vicinity of the Mount Cook site, in addition to which the Defence Don.irtmcnf wolild provide half an acre. Ultimately, when the board was in possession of certain other Government land, not n.t present available, an area of nearly 3J acres would be ready for the purposes of n consolidated school for Mount Cock. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks to General Richardson for his efforts in placing certain portions of Defence property at the immediate disposal of the board. Regarding the question of sites generally, the Department advised that, purchase could at. present be approved only in cases of extreme urgency.
Notification was received of a grant of £1451 12s. for the erection of an infant, room in connection with the Muritai School.
A suggestion that the Training College should have control of the special school established nt the Wellington Children’s Hospital was referred to the senior inspector for report.
