ASSISTANCE GIVEN
WAR RELIEF EXECUTIVE MEETS REPORTS OF COMMITTEES The Executive Committee of the War Belief Association met yesterday. Mr. L. 0. H. Tripp presided. According to the statement of finances, ♦he expenditure during the past month totalled .-Cl 205 ss. 9d., and the income .£350 18s. lOd. The total funds as at ' January 31, 1921, comprised: Investments, .£49,137 18s. 9d.; current accounts, ,£2166 9s. 7d.; petty cash, .£2O; total, <£51,324 Bs. -Id. .Accounts amounting ’to .£2OO 13s. 2d,. were passed for payment. Finance Committee. ■ Ths Finance Committee reported that eince the previous meeting vf the Executive Committee it "had dealt with four I claims, in addition to the ordipary busi- .■ ness in cc-nneetion witli finance. Two ' claims for assistance in building houses ' were received, one of which was granted, and the other deferred for further information. A claim was received from a permanently disabled soldier, who desired assistance on a farm, and although pre-war domicile was complicated, his request was allowed. Applications' Committee. The Applications Committee reported that since the previous meeting of the Executive Committee it had deait with 249 applications. The total number of claims received during the period January 17 to February 16 was 364, comprising 72 new applications and 292 renewals and reconsiderations. Fifty-one claims for which it was responsible were still * under action, and the remaining 64 had been sent to other societies for decision and action by the Wellington Association. A large number of claims for assistance had been received from ex-soldiers who had just 'been discharged from hospital, also applications from the wives and dependants of men who had been ordered into hospital for treatment, and who had required help pending receipt of pensions. Applications had been received for, maternity grants and for tools of trade, and in casesSwhere it was proved that hardship had resulted owing t > war disability, the claim was granted. Each application submitted had received the fullest consideration, and every claim was dealt witli on its merits. The correspondence of the committee was still steadily increasing; since January 1, 1917, over 87,000 letters, cablegrams, and telegrams had been received and dispatched. Mr. L. 0. 11. Tripp, was re-elected rhairmanof the executive for the ensuing year.
