Vice-Bxgal. His Excellency the Governor-General has postponed his proposed tour of the South Island owing to the summoning of Parliament for March 10. He hopes, however, to spend the first week of March in Christchurch. The Minister of Labour (Hon. XI. J. Anderson) has arranged to leave for the south to-night. He will proceed as tar as Invercargill, and will visit several parts of his own electorate before returning to AVellingJon about the end of next week.

Mr. S. A. Ogilvie, telegraph representative on the Post and Telegraph Board of Appeal, having been transferred to the Postal branch, has resigned his seat on the board. An election -or a member in his place has resulted in the return of Mr. IT. I. Bennett. Senior Supervisor, Telegraph Office, Wellington. Mr. F. AV. J. Fox, -a grandson of the late Sir William Russell, arrived in Auckland by the Rimutaka this week. Mr. Fox served throughout the war and rose to trie rank of captain.

Mr. J. B. Merrett, editor of the New Zealand Poultry Journal, Christchurch, is on a visit to Wellington. Superintendent C. P. Norwood left Wellington last night for Blenheim on police business. He will 'be. absent’several days.

Captain C. W. Puzey, of Dunedin, sailed for London by the Paparoa yesterday.4l Mr and Mrs. B. Seth-Smith, of Christchurch, left for London yesterday by the Paparon. Mr D Macpherson, of the Land and Survey Department, Invercargill, has been appointed by the Public Service Commissioner Conservator of Forests of the Southland Conservatory Region in the State Forest Service.
