BRASS BAND CONTEST
There is every indication that the brass band contest, which is to be held at Dannevirke from to-day until 1 riday next, will be a pronounced success. The contest will be under the auspices of the North Island Brass Bands’ Association, and the sum of =£36o has been collected for cash prizes. The programme is varied. There will be a gala at the Domain. to-day, while the quickstep com‘petition will be played at the Showground .to-morrow. On Thursday, soloists will compete at the Town Hall, and on Friday the grand finale will take place in the same auditorium. Included in the prizes are gold and silver medals for soloists, and a special gold i medal for the boys’ competition, which is open to all bandsmen and soloists under the age of seventeen. The Bonsey Shield will be awarded for the highest aggregate marks in music. Two test selections and quick-step competitions. Special train arrangements have been made by the Railways Department, and holiday excursion tickets will be issued to Dannevirke from Palmerston North, Napier, Masterton, and intermediate, stations. These tickets will be available until Friday next.
