PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Petonc Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presiding. There were also present: Councillors C. P. Brockelbank, J. Churchouse, J. Kyle, W. Hay, D. S. Bedingfield and G. Cook. With reference to the council’s application ' for permission to lay a sewer from Priest’s Avenue across the railway reserve rto connect with the railnav sewer, the acting-district engineer, New Zealand Railways, wrote suggesting that the council take over a portion of the Department’s Gin. sewer from where tho proposed sewer ioins to the main sewer, paying a reasonable sum for that. There would then be no intervening piece of sewer between the Borough proposed sewer and the main outfall not controlled by the council.—The matter was referred "to the borough engineer for a report. , . . An application was made by five drivers emnloved by the council for the weekly bonus of 35., granted by the Arbitration Court.—Ot; the motion of Councillor Bedingfield it was decided to inform the men that they were already receiving wages in excess of those gran - ed by the Court, and seeing that the drivers wore now seeking a new award, the council would bo prepared to make payment in terms of the award when
made. ... A deputation of ratepayers residing in Cuba Street- between Atiawa Street and White’s I.ine, waited on t'he council ana a«ked that the road and footpaths should be put in order as soon as possible before the winter set in.
