PROPOSAL TO MAKE VICTORIA COCKPIT OF DISPUTE
MINERS AND RAILWAYMEN MAY BE INVOLVED

At tho All-Australia Union Conference on February 17 fit is anticipated that certain union officials will propose that Victoria be made the cockpit of the shipping dispute, and that tho miners and trimmers bn asked to take action to prevent coal reaching Victoria. This may involve the Railway Union. Mr. Holloway, secretary of the Trades Hall Council, says that in view of the attitude of the employers the feeling is growing that the new slogan should be: “Tho mines to the miners and the ships to the seamen.” —Press Assn. SEAMEN DECLINE TO GIVE ASSURANCES Sydney, February 14. Mr. Walsh, president of the Seamen’s Union, has officially announced that the seamen have declined to give the assurances sought, but are prepared to resume on the conditions existing prior to tho stewards' strike. It is anticipated that some development is likely at a mass meeting of seamen to be held on Tuesday.—Press Assn. TERMS FOR WATERSIDE WORKERS RATIFIED BY STEVEDORES. (Rec. February 14, 10.55 p.m.) Melbourne, February 14. A mass meeting of stevedores, by an. overwhelming majority, decided to ratify the terms provisionally agreed upon by th« Steamship Owners* Federa-tion and the executive of the Waterside Workers Federation, which provide for the payment of 2s. 9d. an hour ordinary time, 3s. 9d. overtime till midnight, and 4s. Gel. atfer midnight.—Press Assn.
