Ynnual licenses totalling £ISS 16s. were collected and building permits to the value of £2325 issued in Petone during the month of January.
The Lower Hutt Borough Council last evening decided to write the Defence Department requesting them to limit the speed of their lorries to six miles per hour while travelling through th’e borough. Referring to a case which had come to his notice a few days ago of a lorry and three trailers travelling through the main street at from about fifteen to twenty miles per hour, Councillor A. Mitchell described the noise made as 1- ' :g “like a thousand guns.” "The ne . .as terrific,” eaid the speaker, “and 1 do not think it will do our roaxte any good."
