Many good stories are told of the late Sir Herbert Tree. Here is one that is characteristic, though familiar. It was during a rehearsal of "Joseph and his Brethren,” Time, four in the morning. The company had been hard at it since after breakfast the previous day. The star-e nt His Majesty’s was crowded to suffocation with worn-out, hysterical principals, dejected, weary supers, a sprinkling of camels, and a flock of sheep. Tree claspeel his hands to his head. "1 don’t know what’s to happen!” he exclaimed. "Three days 'before the production Fifty-two speaking parts, and not one of them correct.” At that moment a sheep gave vent to a pfoinrivo ‘ Ba-a-ah !
