Jleplving to the suggestion of Mr. J. Findlay, Auckland, that the manufacturers of New Zealand should contribute towards industrial rew-arch with the idea of the development of local industries, Mr. W. G. M'Donald, chairman of the Board, of Trade, said, at the Industrial Conference, that the Department of Industries, while it was bound by the policy of economy prevailing in all Government Departments, would be willing to provide the skilled invest igators and the means of research provided the manufacture™ contributed Hie funds. Mr. L. T. Watkins said 'hut AVellington had already done something in this wav. and be hoped that manufnctiirers elsewhere would follow suit.
