(Rec. January 29, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 28. ■Major Holmes and a party of auxi i aries who were proceeding in two motor lorries were ambushed near C\stlo Island,’County Kerry. Forty rebels opened fire on them from behind the fences both sides of the roadway; Major constable was shot dead. Dublin la tie has issued a statement which says that sixtv raiders at Castle Island used two machine-guns, disarmed the auxiliaries, al Afajor Holmes succumbed to his injuries to-day.-Aus.-N.Z.
