By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent. Masterton, January 30.

What is feared will prove to be a boating fatality was reported to the police this morning. It appeals that four men, Messrs. I. O’Connor, R. Biggs, C. Hopkins, and 11. Wooding, all of Masterton, were’ fishing off Castlepoint, about 30 miles north of Masterton, when the boat capsized. The sea was rough at the time, and the boat drifted away with the four men clinging to it. It was impossible to go to their assistance, and the latest information received here this afternoon states that the boat was seen by the lighthouse-keeper drifting northwards, but it was too misty to see whether the men were still clinging to it. Wellington, Napier, and Other places, were communicated with to ascertain if assistance could be sent to the men.' As the sea was very rough and a gale blowing the worst is feared. The men are all well known in Masterton. Mr. Hopkins is manager of the Masterton Dairy Factory, Mr. Wooding is a carrier, Mr. O’Connor a taxi proprietor, and Mr. Biggs is in business. All are married men. ,
