ADMINISTRATION OF SOUTHERN PROVINCES COMMISSION’S AWARD TO CHARTERED COMPANY. London, January 20. A Royal Commission has issued its award on the British South Africa Company’s claim for £7,866,000, under the Privy Council decision, for the administering of the territory to the end of Starch, 1918. The Commission finds that the amount due is .£4,435,000, without interest. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. fA very important judgment was delivered by the Privy Council in July, 1918, respecting the ownership of 114,050 square miles of territory in Southern Rhodbsia. Four claims to ownership had been put. in—by the Chartered British South Africa Company, the Crown,, the wliite settlers, and the natives. The Privy Council had to consider in detail tho whole history of the territory from the time the Chartered Company was allowed to continue administering the land after its abandonment by Lobengula. It was decided that the ownership of the land remained in the Crown; but that the company could continue to administer it, and could be reimbursed for all proper outlays. The claim which has been dealt with by the Royal Commission arose in consequence of this decision."]
