MANAWATU NOTES
4 The rains, which were fairly general throughout the district on Saturday, more especially in the southern end, where very heavy showers were experienced, were followed by a fair rainfall On Monday night. This welcome change has put quite a different complexion on the country, and pastures are now showing a much greener tinge, anil feed prospects are considerably improved. The rain came too late, however, to be of much service to the grain crops, which will only show light yields, but the prospects of rape and turnips for winter feed have considerably improved. The members of the Racing Commission arrived in Palmerston North from the Hawke’s Bay district on Monday night. Yesterday morning they visited the kennels of the Hunt Club, and then went to the Awapuni Racecourse, after which they visited Foxton and Feilding. They returned to Paliaersfon last night, and will leave for Horowhenua this morning, arriving in Wellington in Ihe evening.
