CRICKET AFFAIRS

MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Cricket Association was held last night. Mr. C. G. AVilson presided, and there were also present: Messrs. C. R. Edmonds, M. J. Crombie, AV. G. Hughes, K. H. Tucker, R. J. Hughes, B. L. Salmon, and R. S. Johnston. The Auckland Association wrote thanking the AVellington Association for the manner in which the Auckland Plunket Shield team had been entertained, and expressing the opinion that AVellington’s victory had stimulated cricket both in Auckland and in AVellington. The chairman thanked the committee and cricketers of AVellington generally for their expressions of trust/and con- ■ fidence in his abilities when he had determined to resign the chairmanship of the committee. In view of this fact and the fact that he had negotiated with the Board of Control for the visit of an Australian team he felt he had a duty to cricketers and he would continue as chairman of the committee. The New Zealand Cricket Association wrote with reference to the forthcoming visit of the Australian team to New Zealand. The Australians are to leave Sydney about February 3, and the tour will extend over a period of eight weeks, during which time it is hoped to play twelve matches, including one, and if possible two. tests. The itinerary is in course of preparation, and the dates for the three-days’ match in AA 7 ellington have not yet been arranged. The estimated cost of the tour is 412500. There was some discussion as to whether there should be an age limit placed for junior teams. The discussion was provoked through a proposal .to pay part of the expenses /of a junior team that is to visit Auckland. The chairman said that he would gladly support a financial vote providing the members of the team were young, say, well under 30. .Other members supported Mr. Wilson’s views, but said they would like to see the junior teams being under 23 or 25 years of age. The question was raised whether it was not too late. A team had already been picked, and fhe selectors had not been told there was to be an age limit. They had chosen the best players available. Mr. Hughes thought a grant should be given this year, ana that next season an effort should be made to -make junior touring teams self-supporting by means of the gates. This proposal did not receive the support of the other members of the committee. “This is the committee to run cricket.” remarked one member, "and if we do not control juniors we might as well sro out of business.” Mr. Wilson proposed a grant towards expenses providing the members of the team were 25 years of age and under. The proposal was carried. It was decided in view of the fact that it would be now possible to obtain a wicket to accept a match between the Australian team and a team from the minor associations. It was decided to play all matches next Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. and knocking off at 6.30 p.m. An hour is to lie allowed for lunch between 1 and 2. It was decided Hint it would not bo possible to play Nelson at Easter if a New Zealand-Australia test is played here then. FIXTURES AND GROUNDS.
