HIBERNIAN SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING. The forty-seventh annual meeting of the Hibernian Society took piano on Monday night, and Bro. O. Krohn presided. There was a large attendance, including Bro. T. P. Redmond, who joined the society on the first night it was opened in Wellington on October 6, 1874. The annual report disclosed a successful year, 3*l new members being admitl'd. The sum of .£3(10 was paid out. for sick benefits, £9O for death benefits, and £3O for maternity claims. The society Vas slowly recovering from the disastrous effect of the war strain on friendly society finance. Medical attention and medicine cost the sr-ciety £3OO. Thu system of paying contributions was changed by making each quarter a regular period of 13 weeks, instead of trre gular ones of 12 and 14 weeks. Payment. of contributions is also being made in advance. The society is also establishing a hall fund, mid hopes to erect a building in the near future. A site in the heart of the city has been ot,. tainiul for this purpose. The society’s efforts in promoting ■*!t Patrick’s Day sports and concert. Boxing Day picnic, Thomas Moore anniversary ennrerr. aim competitions have proved successful.
