NOTES AND COMMENTS By Glencob. The Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting, which is to be held at the Hutt Park racecourse on Friday, gives promise of being the most successful yeheld by the club. The total of acceptances for the day number 72, as against 64 last vear. The New Zealand Gold Cup has filled particularly well, and the good field of ten well performed horses m l probably face the starter. The back markers number four on the six seconds mark. Of these Makomako has seme first-class performances over a mile and a quarter to his credit, and as there is no reason why he should not stay he should be in the fighting line at the finish. Marie Lloyd put up a good performance at Grevmouth acouple of weeks ago, winning a mile at the right end in 2min. 17 3-ssec.: she also won at the recent New Brighton meeting in 2min 15 l-ssec.. and was second in last years Wanganui Cup. Havseed has proved himself a fast sprinter, but his successes in two mile races hare been in very slow time. In a slow run nice he would be more than dangerous, but if the pace is solid he may not .see it out. hoike s Drift ran second at Ashburton m heavy going in 4min. 48sec., and. as he has demonstrated that he has pace and can star, this consistent performer is sure to more than beat him. Of those on the Bsec. mark. Nabob has not had much racing, and may be an improving sort; he won a mile nt Ashburton the season before last in 2min. 17 l-ssec.. being then a four-year-old, and recently v.as third in a mile and n quarter nt Ashburton. Theseus is a straightout trotter that has already won throe races over two mil s this season; he may not begin -nith th pacers, but will be going on V’lth it at the finish. Queen Pirate, also on Ssee is looked upon by many as the pick of (he handicap, having gone a mile at Auckland in 2min. 19 l-ssec. at the recent summer meeting. She inn two mile> W 4min. 39sec. at the last Maimate Hains meeting being placed third in the up. She is asked to give away one second only (r, a Amin. 42scc class. Coming to the limit horses. Lindetta won a ” dl ?, a . nd a half race at the recent New .Brighton mooting, beating a good horse in Sir Henry; sho registered 3nnn. 30 *-ssec., must be given every chance if she can compass the remaining of <he Cup at the same gait. M -..ham the First won a double on the same day at the'last Poverty Bay moeling, running two miles in 4min. 4Ssec. pulling up, and later won a mile and a quarter with even greater ease. Giadeye’s bert performance lately over -no miles ’ third at Grevnionth in 4min. 46 --5.ee., but he registered a faster performance at New Brighton by running third in n mile in 2niin. 16 l-ssec. Everything augurs well for the si’cces_ of the Wellington Cun Mee ting w hwh onen= on Thursday. B’.g nelds are «- gaged ill all the events, and the average Ser of runners will be about sixteen per race. As at previous meetings snroiol trains will run from Lamian SCTioii every few minutes from n. 40 a.m. Owners should note the closing of entries for the Hamilton meeting Diese are due on I riday next. The Hastings trainer. L. Wilson, has arrived at Trentham with Hm Cup candidate Mniohn. Early Dawn, and the two-vcar-olds T.-.iparu and M arpatli. Silver Link’s brilliant performance in winning the County Handicap, of 650 sovs. at Auckland, carrying the welter weight of Ost. 101 b. in exceptionally fast time, is her best effort up to date. Her more than half-sister, by Boniform. is to be sold in Wellington on Fr-day next. The name of Early Dawn (7s(.
