At a meeting of tho IVaipawa Hospital Board last week the members paid a very warm tribute to the matron, Miss Carston, who is retiring after 19 years’ service in the hospital. On behalf of past and present members of the board, tho chairman (Mr. Bickford) presented her with a silver casket suitably inscribed and containing a cheque. A public meeting was h»ld in the iown hall on T iiur*day afternoon, the, occasion being to say farewell tn Miss Carsten, who. is taking over the control of the Leper Station, Quail Island. The mayor (Mr. Goodgcr), who presided, regretted that owing io Miss Carsion having' to leave earlier than was anticinated there was no time to make a suitable presentation that day. It was intended, however, to present Miss Carston with an illuminated address at an early date. Messrs. Paul Hunter, A. E. .lull, C. Pattison. J. Donald,- rl. Burnett, and Dr. Reid also spoke ;n eulogistic terms of the high esteem in which Miss Carston was held throughout the district. Ruel value depends not alone upon heating power, but upon rapidity of burning, ease of ignition, minimum smoke, and nniforpiity in heat. A mosquito has 22 teeth, all of which may be seen through a microscope.
