WAIRARAPA NOTES

A meeting of the General Committee of the Wairarapa P, and A. Society was held at Carterton on Saturday, Mr. Janies Hodder presiding. The treasurer reported a bank overdraft of £23 Is. 9d., plus a deposit at call of £4OOO. Receipts since last meeting totalled £274 17s. 3d, Accounts amounting to £275 os. 4d. were passed for payment. Mr. Janies Knight, Feilding, wrote, offering to contribute, with other breeders, in the purchase of a Southdown breeders’ cup, to replace one won outright. Mr. John M'Donald wrote donating his prize money towards the new ground recently purchased. In view of ten cups having been won outright at the late show, a committee was appointed to go into the matter of replacing the trophies. It was decided that the Programme Committee be recommended to include in the cheese classes for the 1922 show two classes to be decided on the Government grade notes at the various ports. It was decided to pay Is. Bd. per lb. for the milk in the butter-fat competition. and to accept £3 per acre rent tor the grazing rights of the ground recently purchased. In the Carterton Magistrate’s Court on Friday, H. J. Kelliher, licensee of the Marquis of Normanby Hotel, Carterton, and his barman, David Moir, were charged with serving liquor to a lad 14 years old. The defendants, who pleaded not guilty, were convicted. Kelliher was fined 20s. and costs, the Magistrate stating that he felt satisfied that the licensee had no personal knowledge of the matter, but was responsible for the.action of his servants. Moir was convicted and fined £5 and costs. For misrepresenting his age, the lad wps convicted and fined 40s. and costs.

Several motorists for dangerous driving of their motor-cars were convicted and fined in the Carterton Magistrate’s Court on Friday. The Featherston County Council has arranged for a consignment of English cement for the Ruakokapatuna bridge, which will increase the cost b? £350. . As no tenders have been received by the Featherston County Council for the contract for new bridges on the Rimutakn Hill, tho council has decided to undertake the work.

■ The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trusts Lands Trust was held last night, Mr. C. E. Daniell presiding. Messrs. E. G. Eton and C. E. Daniell were elected the Trust’s representatives on the Technical School Board of Managers. It was decided not’to grant the Public Trustee two separate leases of the Timms estate. It was decided' to refer to the Education Committee an application from J. E. M’Calwell for a grant to enable his son to pursue his studies as an electrical engineer at the Christchurch School of Engineering. Accounts amounting to £154 ss. 4d. were passed for payment. Rents received between December 10 and January 14 amounted to £236 12s. lOd.
