The annual sale of the Waikanae yearlings is to be held on Friday next. Full particulars of t)ie lots to be submitted will be found in our advertising columns. The Blenheim owner, Mr. J. P. Murphy, with three horses, has arrived at Trentham. J. Buchanan, in charge of Canzonet, reached Wellington last evening. . Yesterday morning P. Mason came to Trentham with Adopted and the two-year-olds Egotism and Pluto. ■* The Wairoa Meeting will be concluded to-day. The Cheviot Meeting is to take place to-day. The Summer Meeting of the Wellington Racing Club will open on Thursday next and will be continued on the following Saturday and Monday. The Hawk, who developed soreness and could not start on the concluding day of the Ellerslie Meeting, is still in the north, and so far it has been found impossible to shift him. The colt by Lucullus from March,’ who many first-class judges have a good word for, will probably go into the charge of F. Davis at Woodville, while Mr. E. R. Davis is absent in England. The Levin-owned Gallin, who was well fancied for his Awapnni engagements, but failed to show up, will make his next appearance at the Foxton Meeting next week. The temporary financial stringency ruling may affect the price of yearlings, along with motor-cars', etcKShrewd owners, whose finances will permit of their doing so, will doubtless take advantage of the position and heli> themselves at the sale of tho Waikanae yearlings next Friday. These yearlings, judged on looks, are fully the equal of, if not superior to, those sold 'fti Wellington last January. Mr. A. Cameron, of Masterton, is the new owner of Maropa. In the past the full-sister to Cherubini has had a reputation for speed, but has not acted up to it. This year the Nelson Jockey Club will race on March 3 and 5. and the Marlborough club on the following Wednesday and Friday. There will bo a trotting meeting on the off day between each gathering. Wellington sportsmen will bo well catered for next week, for in addition to the big attraction at Trentham there is the "Wellington Trotting Club’s Annual Meeting, which is to bo held at the Hutt course on Friday next. The Martian—Paphia colt, ,to be sold in Wellington next Friday, belongs io tho all-conquering Waterwitch family. A dark bay of great substance and power with wide quarters, deep barrel, shortlegged, good feet, a beautiful mover and standing wonderfully true in front for a Martian, many consider him the grandest yearling to go under the hammer in New Zealand this year, not even excepting the Martian—Rose Red colt, purchased for S-50gns. in Christchurch by the owner of Bonny Heather after a spirited duel with Mr. W. R. Kemball. who had io go to 825gns. a couple of years ago to secure this colt's brother. Raceful. The Wellington Cup candidate EleuS has arrived at Trentham, along with his stable companions Silver Peak and Roseday. The trio were six days on the journey from Invercargill, and in consequence lightened up n trifle, and tho two last-men tinned have contracted slight chills, due th the change of climate. However. their owner doos not anticipate any ill-effects, and his opinion is shared by G. Young, who is taking off nearly a stone in order to. ride Elens, "st. 71b.
