INCREASE IN GOVERNMENT GRANT By Teleeraoh—Pre.s Association. Christchurch. January 12. Ail a meeting of the Dominion Executive of the Royal Life-Saving (Society, the Minister of Internal Affairs wrote with reference to a request for an increase in the Government grant that it had been decided to increase the amount to .£250 per annum. It was to be understood, however, that this would cancel the existing arrangement for a subsidy of Ji for £■ up to XB7 10s. dn subscriptions collected by the society direct from the public. 11l was decided to request the conference of head centres, when sitting at Dunedin, to recommend in what manner the Government subsidy should be alloThe chief secretary of the Royal LifeSaving Society, London, wrote, enclosing samples of costume badges, one marked “Surf Life Guard,” and the other “Award of Merit.” The letter stated that it had been decided to have a bronze medallion awarded for proved ability to render first aid in the surf, the medallion to lie inscribed “for lifesavin™ skill with surf-life-line,” and "awarded to.” Having regal’d to the fact that every surf - life-guard holder would be in the possession of the proficiency certificate, no further certificate was proposed to be issued. With legard to the instructor’s certificates, it _ was thought that the] present certificate would suffice. It was announced that the GovernorGeneral had accepted the position of vicepatron of the society.
