STRANDED NEW ZEALANDERS

Asked yesterday whether anything was being done to assist the New Zealanders who have been stranded in Sydney as the result of the Australian shipping trouble, the Prime Minister stated that one steamer would be leaving for New’ Zealand next Monday, and that another would follow a week later. The Government had no advice of any postponement of the sailing dates, and delay was not expected. In the two vessels 700 people could be carried. There were three classes desiring passages: New Zealand ers who were on a visit to the Commonwealth, immigrants who were coming to this country under the overseas settlement scheme, and Australian tourists. Preference for passages would be given to those in the first two categories.
