4 ANNUAL GRANT FOR AFFORESTATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, January 12. A conference was held here to-uay regarding afforestation of the sand wastes on the AVest Coast. Captain Ellis, ot the Forestry Department, outlined «r scheme. Resolutions were passed as follow:—“That this conference strongly ( affirms the fact that the sand .dune areas on the AVest Coast'oj this island should bo afforested, and urges the Government to make an annual grant of £lOOO for five years for the purpose of enabling an experimental station to be set up by the Forestry Department for demonstration purposes.” “That a deputation from the various bodies interested interview the Premier for the purpose of impressing him with the importance of the suggestion.”
