James Archer. ex-Town Clerk of Mas-t-srton, who was arrested at ljaeroa, appeared in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, before ,Mr. i\ K. In asking that Archer "be remanded to appear at Masterton on Friday next, Chief-Detective Ward stated that there were in all fourteen charges pending against the accused, and the amount involved was about J21200. 1 \ The remand was granted and bail was allowed in two sureties of .£4OO each. Archer was at the time of his arrest employed as engineer to the recentlyformed Hauraki Plains County Council.
