Sir, —I 6eek your kind oifices in allowing me to acknowledge through your paper tho receipt of the following subscriptions from Europeans sent to mo without any solicitation whatsoever, in aid of.my countrymen, now stricken by famine in North China. I ani forwarding these amounts direct to my Government, who proppaa to distribute relief through missionaries and other charitable agencies in the faminestricken districts. An International Belief Committee has been set up m Peking, and this committee has informed mo by cablegram that 20,000,000 persons are in direst want, and millions must perish unfess relief is promptly given. It is estimated that are needed fpr this purpose. .
