Discussing th,e movement* of /wheat freights, an Australian newspaper observes that growers will gain substantially by the fall, in the rates to tho United Kingdom and Europe for 1921. "At one time," it adds, "it seemed as if shipowners were determined to hold out for a rate of JSB per ton, but subsequently a partial withdrawal of charterers resulted in owners modifying their quotations. Freights thtln iiejcediet!' to .£7 10s. per ton, and sinco then have eased until, at tho present time, it is slated that steamer tonnage i 9 offering freely at <£5. The opinion has been expressed in shipping circles that, although parcel freight probably could be obtained for ■£•! 10s. per ton, freights may not go much below the current level for some little time. Taking a price of ,£8 pfrr ton, at whioh some charters were made, this means a freight oharge of 4a. id. per bushel. At .£6 per ton it works out at 3s. 3d., and at tho prevailing rate approximately 2s. B}'J., so it will be seen that on all charters which may .bo made at ,£o per ton (steamers), tho saving as against the J!3 rate Li over Is. 7d. per bushel."
