» OFFICIAL. OPENING. By Telegraph—Presa Association. Dunedin, December 28 , The Now Zealand Chess Congress was officially opened to-day, the spenkerp being Mr. ]>'. A. Cleland'(president), tho Mayor of Dunedin, and the Chief Justice (Sir Iloberl Stout). On behalf of the competitors, Messrs. W. A Mason and F. Kclhng spoke.. There are eight competitors iu the championship, 'i'ho hours of play have been fixed for 2 p.m. to 815 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; adjourned games 9 30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
