FORTHCOMING FIXTURES. FRIDAY. 105 Customhouse Quay, Wellington, 2.30 Co") V " ale (S ' Q - Nathan - aud THE OUTLOOK FOR BUTTER AN OPTIMISTIC VIKW By TclosraDh-Succial CorresDondont. -» Hawera, December 28. Dairymen have shown some concern regarding a cablegram recently received from Loudon to the effect'that butter prices are steadily declining-. Mr. A. Morton, chairman of the iNew Zealand Dairy Association, attributes the shrinkaye in price to decreased purchasing puwer on the part of the people at Home. As the Dominion output of butter had been sold under contract till March next, the price hero would not bo affected by any decline in prico received in other countries. Mr Morton, referring to future prospects, pointed out that the cheese, meat, and wool markets had all experienced a decline, but this had been increased by a surplus of supply over demand. Butter, however, was different in that it was still in short supply, and although purchasing power had diminished at' Home, the supply was much below the- quantity usually consumed. Mr. Morton said he was optimistic enough to believe that though the price might come back somewhat, butter would otill keep j on top of the primary products, and that n satisfactory price would be received when.the market was free. The price would hardly go below 2s. Cd, and it might bo even more.
