A. DUNCAN WINS WELLINGTON TOURNEY CLOSE GAME OVER EIGHTEEN HOLES Tho Wellington Golf Club's summer tourney cam., to an end yesterday on the Heretaunga links, the victory'in the men's championship going to A. Duncan, after an interesting match with Douglas Whytc Tho game was played over eighteen 'holes, being won by one up at the eighteenth. Duncan did not commence in hie usual style, and for the, first few holes his younger opponent played consistently w.dl, one of his achievements being a remarknbly fine putt from the edge of tho third green, which gave liim the hole in two. But the more experienced plajvr found his form quickly, and although ivhyto played'pluckily and well, the accuracy for which Duncan is famed—dospite the failure of several of his newlyncquired "crash" shots—was not lacking, and consistency gave him mnliy advantages. The younger man, however, played with cleverness, and several of' his drives were very tine. He had the misfortune to get into difficulties occasionally, and at the ninth had consistent bad luck in having to lose strokes. The match was an engrossing one, although tho putting, with tlfe exception, of two line shots by Whyte, was not sood. A fairly heavy wind did much fo 'tamper the players. Duncan's driving was very fine, and at time? his shots w-n'o splendid. The concluding stage's gave the younger golfer chances to rerover lost ground, and this he did at De fifteenth and seventeenth holes, allowing 'Vis-opponent: to win only by tho narrow margin of one hole.
