Iho Palestine Department of Antiquities is. zealously investigating and safeguarding sacred monuments. It recently made a notable discovery of the remains of two early Christian churches in the Garden of Gethsemane, one dating from the thirteenth century. .IJeneatli this was found the remains of what is probably the oldest church in Palestine,, dating back to the fourth century. Parts of the wjills, of the eulunms, of the apses, and of the original mosaic floor are intact. Tho Pranciscan Order has been entrusted with- the erection of a new church on tho site, in order to preserve the remains, which reach rocks associated with the Agony of Christ. Another discovery is recorded of a "giant's footprint," a yard long, in the sandstone at Ascalon, —"The Times."
