DROWNING ACCIDENT
YOUNG MAN LOSES LIFE IN MANAWATU RIVER.

Ihe victim was Arthur Cyril 1/Overidge, ageu 21 years, who was with threo companion* —. Loith Mori lie, Joseph ijilson, and —. 'turner. They had uecu across the .rivcr (illco nttd then returned to what is known ns tho Island, in the stream. Loveridge told his mates that he would have another swim, and the others went ashore while lie started off up-stream again. After going some distance he turned round and swam <.jown-fitreani aljount 200 yards on bis back. .He was then seen suddenly to disappear in about i feet 10 inches of water. Merino called out to the others, and «i search was commenced for tho body, which was discovered about ten minutes afterwards. Dr. I'ett, wlio was sent for, resorted to artificial respiration without success. Deceased was a stranger to Palmerston North, and it is understood that his people reside in Nelson. He was a student at the Kelhurn- Training CollCß*, and only left that institution a few days ago.
