TECHNICAL COLLEGE
The annual prize-giving of the Wellington Technical College took place yesterday afternoon in the Town Hall Concert Chamber. There wan a. large attendance of scholars, parents, and friends. In addition to the members of the stall' there were present: The Mnyor (J[r. J. P. Luke), Mesßrs W. H. Bennett (chairman of tho Technical College Bor.rd, ami T. Forsyth (chairman of the Wellington Education Board).' The Director (Dr. J. H. Howell) waß also in attcsuance. | Mr. Bennett, in the course : of a short address, referred to the excellent work that was being done by tho school, and to marked success that ,had attended the efforts of the pupils. At the beginning of tlio year tlm merit card system wae introduced into the school
as a means of encouragirtg tho boys to nut forth their best efforts in all their work. The cards wcrn of live grades, ranging from "cscellout" to "unsatisfactory," and each card possessed a, specified voluo in marks. Tho boys were given to understand that the prizes would bo awarded according to the value of the cards obtained during the year. This caused tho interest and desire to work for, mid obtain, cards of high valuos, to be maintained throughout' the year. Masters W. Dcnnchy and Leo Lvntt won scholarships tenable at St. Patricks ColIst.' Joseph's Choir boys still have the honour of singing at Mass on Sundays and festival days, and their devotional Blngiug is much appreciated by the largb congregations which attend St. Joseph. Church. A wry pleasant, feature of tn« year's work was tho singing of a number of entirely new hymns not previously heard in this church. The boys choir also sang at High Mass and Benediction on several occasions, and their rendering ot thu Latin was very highly, spoken of.
