Tho Lcvuka and Arrawatta left port before the notices expired.- ■ Tho Ulimaroa, duo to sail from Sydney for Wellington to-day, is among the ships affected by the cooks and stewards' di«; pute. Tho nrews of the steamers Ulimaroa ■ and Zealandia havo been paid off. ■-■ The | Maheno and the Niagara, duo to, leavo , to-morrow, are fully booked with passengers, many of them for the Davis Cup contests. Tho suggestion is mo do -that the stowards' vacancies in tho former should be filled by New Zcalandors to enable tho vessel to sail, as half tho stewards belong to New Zealand. The firemen state that if the proposal is carried out they will refuso to sail. -J ho position is likely to becomo more serious than anticipated, as tho Workers' Federation, embracing-40,000 -workers, will support the stewards, and tho coal miners are .sympathetic. Tho Foderal secretary of tho Stowards Union has announced that-the men will give notice and loavo the ships as the vessels arrive at their ports throughout the Commonwealth.—Press Assn. ISOLATION OF TASMANIA PROBABLE EVIDENCE OF LONG-PLANNED STRIKE. Sydney, December 10.
