•I'ho operations of the Forestry Department have Teached a stage where staff is required un a fairlv large s"ik, and applications art now being invited, (or a number o£ appointments. the officers who are to »e s - e l « two conservators of forests at AiOO ft vear oaeh, one conservator at .UOO. iwo excerts at JCSIO and £¥!0 respectively, mid twenty forest rangers at A 320 each. The positions ought to be attractive to many young New'/ealanders. but it appear's likely that for the more responsible officers the Government will luive to look aliroad. The training of forestry officers in this country has not .yet begun. in luct the Government has not yet selected a sits fof the proposed school of forestry.
