COMMISSION AGENT PLEADS GUILTY. Bv Teleeranh—Press Association. Auckland, December 13. Charged with obtaining money for shares for which he failed to give an account, also with obtaining money under false pretences, Walter Henry M'Connell, a commission agent, appeared in tho Police Court; to-dny before Mr. Cutten, S.M. The money was secured by accused, it was alleged, on tho representation that lie was an authorised representative of the New Zealand Rubber Products Company, Wellington. .Tames Wilson, town clerk at Devonport, told how lie had bought shares in illio New Zealand .Rubber Products Company on accused's representations. W. B. Durban, W. S. Stone, Henry Gregory, H. B. Bull, and David Toed told how they had bought shares from the accused under t/ho belief that he was an agent of tho New Zealand Rubber Products Company. One witness described accused as having samples of rubber goods with him, and having said he had seen 'the rubber company in Wellington in full operation. A. J. M'Clellan, acting-secretary of the New Zealand Rubber Products Company, of Wellington, said that in July, 1910, accused was employed by the company to sell shares and receivo application money. _ The Auckland district was allotted to him, and be turned in numerous applications for shares, but in consequence of complaints from shareholders nml irregularities in the monoy received, lie was dismissed in September as the company's agent. In May they received an application for shares.' but no money was enclosed in the application. It was ."aid that accused had received the' application and 1 allotment l money; the company, Miowcver, had never got the amounts. Witness gave particulars of other funis for which accused had never accounted. At the period of several of the .-transactions accused was not in i(ho employ of thn company at all. The total amount involved in these transnetions, from 'Juno, 1019, to September, 1320. was .£SI2. r > Ifln.
