ARTERIAL ROADS
POLICY OP THE GOVERNMENT.
Important, recommendations were made recently by a commission which considered' the control and maintenance of tlio Ilelensville-A iicklnnd-HamiHon main mad The commission suggested that a special fuiul should be created tor tho support of arterial roads, and that special boards representing the Government and tho locnl bodies should control these roads. These recommendations find a general application beyond the restrict with which tile commission was particularly dealine. The Minister of Public Works (Hon. .T G Coatee) stated vesierday that tho recommendations of the commission had received consideration. The suggestions made followed very closely 'the lines of the Government's iioliev in tho matter of arterial roads, but legislation would be required before that jnolicy could be put into operation. He liad statcd'durthe session that he hoped to be able to place a Hill dealing with arterial roads' before Parliament next year.
