SCHOOL DENTISTRY
Sir,—lt is very refreshing to -a tired, mother to take up the paper lately anil.' find a subject that she can feel is really, worth studying, because so much of tho paper nowadays is -taken up with murder cases, divorce proceedings, and simi- i lar unodifying topics. . I-irefer to the much-discussed subject. "Dentistry in Schools." We havo heard what Die dentists have to say, wo have heard what the Minister of Education and tho Cluet Dental Officer have to say. what do the parent* think? I. havo so far hoard no expression of opinion lrom mothers, as to what! they would like, i Surely . they could hurry the matter along by saying what ought to be done, for. after all, it is tho children and tiho parents who are mostly concorned. For my part, I would welcomo any help which the Education Department could give in tho way of free dental treatment and inspection of school children. No one will deny that it would be splendid if wo could have a fullyqualified dentist for overy school, but it. has been ehown that this is not, possible for some years to come; Jhereforo. I say, let us have the dental nurses, who, I am sure, will do_ very efficient work. If any parents object to their children being treated by theso nurses, ihey can, of course, Gend their children to their own dentists. I think it is high time that measures were taken to save children's teeth, and it would bo a great pity if the presenfl offer by the Education Department were to fall through becauso of opposition from some of the dentists.—l am, etc., v NAN* SMYTHE.
