CHEESE INDUSTRY
UNEASINESS AMONG SUPPLIERS. Recent (statements in tho Press concerning the cheese position in England are causing some uneasiness among cheese suppliers, writes the Hamilton correspondent of the ,r New Zealand Herald." jdvices recelvefl. by cable by the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co. within tho Jast.few days show that thero is no cause for nnduo anxiety. Yliero has certainly been a slight weakening in the clieese market in Great Britain, th» fall in price being about a penny por lb. This decrease is duo largely to tJie exceptionally heaTy firifisli make which is now Being niarkolecC and the present indications are tliat tho fifll is -temporary. It is possible that clicese may pay erMitly I'ess than was indicated fionin months ago, but so far (lie difference in prico is not sufficient to cause uneasiness. , , Tlio ffrst consignment of New Zealand cheeso manulnctured this season will bo shipped from the Auckland province shortly, but will not reach London until about tho end of January. Tho bulk of New Zealand cheese, therefore, will pot be available for sale in Grent Britain until Mnreh and April, when it is anticipated that n large portion of the British make will .have been disposed of, and that New '/.Kiland will l>avn * fairly free market. To provide for contingencies in the event of a further decrease in tlio price of cheese the New Zealand Co-operntivo Dairy Company has considered tho possibility of a change over from cneesc in butter. At the present time the position doi-u not wnrrant this course, and ths company therefore recommends cheese factories to continue as usual.
