Patriek'Mangin, who said he came from Pahiatua about a fortnight ago with .£l3, was found on tho' wharf' on Saturday ■'■ with 6d. in his pocket.- He was charged with being an idle and disorderly "person, in that ho-possessed insufficient lawful moans of : support. He .was convicted ' and discharged, and the Magistrate advis- ■' ed'hiin' to leave for Pahiatua as quiokly as possible. A month's imprisonment was the penalty inflicted' on Joseph Jordan, w'ho was convicted' of two petty thefts. Jonluu was staying : at a. boardinghouae in TaraI naki- Street, and shared' a room with a .= man named James Butler. On Saturday Jordan got up very early in the mornings went through the trouser pockets of his ■ fellow'boarder, and secured £3 in money, and when leaving. the house he walked off with.the landlady's rug. He was discovered at the railway station with the rug in his possession. . . Edward L. Allbright, a driver, (for whom Mr. A. JJ. Sievwright appeared), pleaded guilty:to the theft of a carpet, runner (value .£5), the property of tho Railway Dopaa'fauent.i. Mr. Sievwright stated that the accused was only 21 years of agi>, and married. On the day in question he was drinking heavily, and when [sent to the railway station for a loud Die took tho carpet and sold it for a few shillings. In view of his youth counsel suggested that he should bs- given a chance; : he was willing to take out a prohibition order. Allbright was fined .£lO, in- default ono month's imprisonment, and a prohibition order was issued against him. MAINTENANCE CASES. John Doherty, who was behind with his maintenance payments, tho arrears totalling ,£65 10s., was sentenced to a' month's imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so' long as ho pays 7s. Cd. por week oft' the amount due. Benjamin Ede wus in arrears to tho extent of £7 in his payments, snd ho was sentenced to a month's imprisonment, the warrant to be held over so long as ho pays £1 per week. For failing to comply with tho terms .■ of a maintenance order, Patrick L. J. Poster, whoso arrears totalled .£l2 25., was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, tho :wnrrant to bo suspended for seven days. ' Arthur Morton was fined 10s. for disobeying a maintenance order made ogams' him. . Annie Ford (for whom Mr. P. VI. Jackson appeared) was granted a soparatiou fromher husband, frank C. Ford (Mr. T. Neavo), on tho grounds of cruelty. Mrs. Ford wa6 given the guardianship of the children, and tho defendant was ordered to pay 30s. per week maintenance.
