GIRL DROWNED WHILE BATHING

By Telegraph—Press Association. Taumarunui, December 6. Mary Thorpe, aged fifteen years, only daughter of Mr. H. Thorpe, of the Public Works Department, was drowned yesterday while bathing in tho Ongaruc River, near T<iumarumii. Tho girl was evidently seized by cramp or heart failure, and. suddenly sank in deep water, whilo swimming 1/esido another girl, who woe grabbed by deceased and pulled under, but got free and scrambled ashore. A number of bathere wore present, and after a search of ten minutes, tho body was located and recovered by a man named M. Thompson. Artificial restoration was tried for na hour and a . quarter, without success. Deceased had previously complained of cramp.
