Tho Minister of Defence (Sir Heaton Rhodes) is to go to Napier to-day. Ho will be away from Wellington for two or three days. . The Minister of Education (Hon. C. J. Parr) left Wellington yesterday for tho East Coast. Ho 'is proceeding to Gisborne via Napier and Wairoa. He lias arranjied to inspect various schools and atltend-to Departmental business in tho Gisborne district. Her will then proceed to Auckland via Tauranga, arriving in Auckland on December 17,. and proceeding at once to Wellington. He has arranged- to leave Wellington again on December 20. in order to 6pend tho holidays in Auckland. The Minister ,of Lands (Hon. D. H. Guthrie) has arfnnged to pay a visit t'o FeildinK to-morrow. Tho Minister ,of Justice (Hon. E, P. Lee) is expected Kb arrive in Wellington from the south this morn'ing. The Rev. Father James Wliyte, Bishop Elect of Dunedin, and Bishop Carroll, of Lismore, New South Wales, were passengers by tho Manuka from Sydney yestorday. Father Whyto will be consecrated at Duiiedin on Sunday next. At the same time the Right Rev. Dr. Liston, of Holy Cross Seminary. Mosgiel, will he consjcrated Coadjutor-Bishop of Auckland. Among the arrivals by overseas liners to-day were Dr. Averill, Anglican Bishop of Auckland, who has returned from the Lambeth - Conference, , tho llou._ George Fowlds, who is back from America, and Dr. Tilvard, biologist to the Cawtliron Institute, Nelson.—Press Assn. Tho death occurred late on Saturday night of Mr, 11. K. Robcrtshaw, senior member of the -Miramar Bovouph Council, and tho only practising master baker in the district* Tho Tnte Mr. Robertshaw was for some sixteen years, a resident of the district. He commenced in quite a small way, and built up a very good business from which ho was about to retire. Death resulted from an npoplectic stroke. He leaves a widow and two cliildro.u.
Mr. Couchnmn, accountant of the Otago Farmers' Co-operative Society, is on a holiday visit to Wellington. Mr. Couchman was woll known in l'ress circles in Wellington some twenty years ago. Mi-. ,T. M'Kenzio, director of .reserves, is leaving on a week's trip to Auckland to-day. Sir. E. Gravrslock, who is to manage the New South Wales State Orchestra's tour on behalf o£ J. and N. Tait, arrived here by the Manuka yesterday afternoon. , Mr. T. W. Heney, for many years mlilor of the Svdney "Morning Herald, has beo.n appointed eflitor of tho Brisbane "Telegraph." Mr. P. 1?. Fulton, one of tho best allround crickcters in Hawke's Ba.v, is leaving Napior to tako up his residence in Wellington. Mr. William Lambert, aged 73, died suddenly in St. David's Presbyterian Church, Auckland, on Sunday morning. ]l'« had unveiled a roll of honour during the service, saying a few word* to the. congregation.
