Masterton, December 4. At. a special general meeting of the Masterton Racing Club on Saturday, Mr. C. V. Vnllancc presiding, it was resolved, on tho motion of Mr. E. G. Eton, that tho stewards be authorised to increase the stakes for tho forthcoming Autumn Moi'ting t>y a sum not exceeding .£sOll. At tile usual meeting of the stewards held later the programme was drawn up, showing an increase of <C 430 in stako money. A total of .£I6BO will now be dispersed in stakes at tho Autumn Meeting.

The New 'Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency forwarded a cheque for £5 55., being tho surplus profit on wool sold during the 191G-17 season.

• A letter from tho Eacinpr Conference stated that the horse Caricature hail been permitted to start at the recent Masterton Spring Meeting without the accident feo having first been paid, and that the owner had been fined ,£l in consequence. The secretary (Mr. A. Hathawny) explained that he had seen the horso's name as a starter at the Avondale Meeting on September 23, and had therefore concluded that the accident fee had been paid. The Dating Calendar had not reached his office until tho night of the second day of tho meeting. Undor those circuit)stance* the club could not be held responsible for tho offence. • It was resolved to reply to the conference in terms of the ■secretary's explanation. A report, from Mr. A. T. Fauvcl regarding ticket selling rrturns, and n recommendation that the 10s. windows bo dispensed with, was referred to a n\eottnß of tho stewards to be held on tho racecourse. Alex. Watson wan granted a renewal ot his jockey's license, which had lapsed owing to 'his far service. The treasurer's report showed a credit balance of JDISS 13s. 7d. -Accounts amounting to JCH3 2s. 9d. were passed for payment.
