What is stated to be the largest diamond ever imported into the .United' States arrived by tho Aquitania, in he possession of Mr. Fred Whittrani. manager of the Madrid branch of the Mercantile Bank of America, for disposal on account of Abd-el-Hafid, the former Sultan of Morocco. The diamond, which is of llgTit straw colour, is a perfect stono : weighing 183 carats. Mr.- Whittram's wife, who was tho custodian of the diamond during the crossing of tho Atlantic, admitted that she slept uneasily while the precious stone was in her charge.
